Tooth Extraction
We take every step necessary to save the tooth that will be extracted.
What is a Tooth Extraction?
Extractions involve completely removing one or more of your natural teeth. They are always done to improve the health of your mouth. Some extractions are necessary to prevent problems, like wisdom teeth, while other extractions are done to eliminate pain and discomfort. Extractions are safe, easy and done comfortably in our office.
Why is a Tooth Extraction needed?
Extractions are done on an as-needed basis. We take every step necessary to save the tooth that will be extracted. It’s not uncommon for patients to want an extraction in place of more complicated treatment. Some of the most common reasons for needing an extraction include:
- Severe decay
- Loose teeth
- Severely cracked or fractured teeth
- Wisdom teeth
- Stubborn baby teeth
Who’s a good candidate for a Tooth Extraction?
Because extractions are done safely and comfortably in our office, most of our patients who need one can safely have the procedure performed. We take all steps necessary to ensure that you’re as comfortable as possible before, during and after the extraction is done. We may advise you to stop certain medications right before surgery to prevent excess bleeding. During your consultation, we will go over your medical and health history.
What happens during a Tooth Extraction?
We first administer local or general anesthetic as needed. We will discuss your sedative options before coming in for surgery. The tooth is then removed using special tools and instruments. We may place sutures depending on the tooth’s location and size. If the tooth is impacted underneath the gums, an incision is made through the soft tissue to gain access to the tooth in order to remove it. You will be sent home biting down on a piece of gauze to stop the bleeding. Special aftercare instructions are given to you to improve the chances of healing fully and properly. We are available at all times in the event that you experience a post-operative emergency.
