Wisdom Teeth Removal
If the teeth are impacted, a small incision is made to expose the teeth and remove them.
What is Wisdom Teeth Removal?
The wisdom teeth are the very last teeth to begin developing in the mouth. Oftentimes, they begin to show up on x-rays when a patient is about 16 or 17 years old. Unfortunately, most patients just don’t have enough room for all of their wisdom teeth to come in. This can result in the teeth becoming impacted and causing issues with pain, inflammation, infection and damage to surrounding teeth.
Why is Wisdom Teeth Removal needed?
You may need to have your wisdom teeth removed if they don’t have enough room to come in fully. In some cases, a wisdom tooth will eventually find its way up through the gums, but will only partially erupt. This can cause problems with infection and inflammation that is only remedied by removing the tooth. Wisdom tooth removal not only prevents all of these problems from happening, but extracting the teeth can improve your oral health if you’re already having issues.
Who’s a good candidate for Wisdom Teeth Removal?
We will take x-rays and special images of your teeth to see where your wisdom teeth are and how impacted they happen to be. This will help us to create a personalized treatment plan specific to your own individual needs. Most patients who do not have enough room for the wisdom teeth to come in should have them removed. We recommend to have them removed sooner rather than later to prevent dental problems from developing.
