Dental Implants
Implants are ideal for patients who want a more durable and permanent solution to their dental woes.
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are often made out of titanium and are used to replace one or more missing teeth. If a single tooth is missing, the implant will be inserted deep into the bone of the jaw and a crown placed on top. If more than one tooth is missing, several implants will be placed and either a bridge or denture made specifically for that area. Implants can last for several decades before they may need to be replaced, so they’re a relatively permanent solution to missing dentition.
Why are Dental Implants needed?
You may need a dental implant if you’re completely missing a tooth. If you wear dentures, you may choose to have several implants placed to keep the denture plate securely in place without having to use creams and gels. Implants are ideal for patients who want a more durable and permanent solution to their dental woes. They naturally bond with surrounding bone in about six months time.
Who’s a good candidate for Dental Implants?
Implants rely on a process known as osseointegration to heal properly. This simply means that they need adequate bone structure to bond with over the course of several months. If you have bone loss, we may recommend having a bone grafting done prior to the actual surgery. You should be healthy enough to undergo oral surgery before having treatment done.
What happens during the procedure for Dental Implants?
We first consult with you and go over your medical and health history to ensure that implants are right for you. The implant is then inserted deep into the bone of the jaw and the gums sutured. The implant’s post will bond with surrounding bone mass in about six months. After this time, you’ll come back into the office and have a crown, bridge or denture made specifically for the new implants. Your implants will last for decades and provide you with a full and healthy-looking smile.
